NAPP (NPHA) Vision: Establishing a culture of people helping people.

NAPP (NPHA) Mission. The National Association of Peer Programs (NAPP), formerly National Peer Helpers Association (NPHA), equips individuals to help others by promoting standards of excellence in peer helping programs and training curricula.

PURPOSE: Recognizing the expanding role of peer programs in schools and communities and the increasing importance of professional development, the NAPP (NPHA) has established a voluntary national certification program. This program identifies a certifiable level of adherence to the NAPP (NPHA) Programmatic Standards. Curricula that attain these levels and complete the certification process may then claim the designation, Certified Peer Curriculum (CPC).

OBJECTIVES: Within the field of peer helping, this certification intends to certify curricula that:
Provide participants with a thorough understanding of what it means to be a peer helper.
Prepare students to act as ethical helpers.
Cover all major communication skills needed to be an effective helper.
Include training lessons constructed effectively.
Help youth to better understand other's behavior.
Exemplify methodological "best practices."

BASIC ELIGIBILITY: Peer curricula which satisfy the following prerequisites may apply:
Application must be completed by a member in good standing of NAPP (NPHA).

COMPLETION OF THE APPLICATION:
Application must include a pledge in writing to adhere to the NAPP (NPHA) Programmatic Standards and Code of Ethics.

Note: Peer curricula which, due to some extenuating circumstances, do not satisfy all of the prerequisites, may request an exemption in writing from the Certification Committee. Such an appeal in writing must accompany the application form. Each appeal will be reviewed on its own merit, but it also should be understood that an appeal does not guarantee a waiver of the prerequisites.

EARNING THE DESIGNATION: Certified Peer Curriculum (CPC): Print and complete the application and return it along with non-refundable $200 application fee to the NAPP (NPHA) Professional Development Committee. Make your check payable to NAPP (NPHA). Following verification and analysis by the committee of data included on the application, you will receive a certificate and be allowed to use this designation in your curriculum and marketing. Curriculum revisions after certification must be reviewed, and a $100 renewal fee is due to continue using the certification designation once revisions have been made to certified curriculum.

Return the Certified Peer Curriculum (CPC) application and fee to: NAPP (NPHA), PO Box 10627, Gladstone, MO 64188-0627, Phone: 877-314-7337, Fax: 866-314-7337.
